Things to Avoid for High Cholesterol

More information coming soon...

Description

Many argue that the correlation between heart attacks and high cholesterol has been overstated and in fact too low of cholesterol can cause problems (such as depression and hemorrhaging).

In fact some argue that it is the homocysteine (by-product of meat metabolism) that causes problems, but unfortunately not that many people get tested for high homocysteine.

One of the keys to fighting high cholesterol is fiber which has been shown in studies to lower LDL cholesterol.  One of the best sources of fiber is water soluble pectin that can absorb fats and cholesterol and flush them out the body.  Purple Pectin or Certo is a good source of pectin.

Another fiber trick is psyllium which a is a popular ingredient in a number of colon cleanses.  Products that include psyllium include: correctol powder, fiberall, genfiber, hydrocil Instant, konsyl, maalox daily fiber therapy, metamucil, modane, mylanta natural fiber supplement, and reguloid, serutan.  Another popular fiber supplement is guar gum that can also be found in many fiber products.

Vitamins that help include Niacin (vitamin B3), folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12.  Vitamins C and E can help prevent oxidative damage from bad cholesterol .When it comes to diet, avoid meat.  Meat = homocysteine = general circulation problems.  (this and not so much the cholesterol is the big issue with meat)

Garlic is an important anti-cholesterol agent with some studies showing that it can help reduce LDL by 16 percent.  Some studies have shown that garlic tablets are not effective compared to natural garlic when combating high cholesterol.

The Indian herb guggul (aka gugulipid) can significantly lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol.  Make sure to get hgh quality guggul (each tablet should have 25 mg standardized gugulsterones).

Another helpfull herb is Chinese Red Yeast (HongQu or Cholestin) which has been shown to help with cholesteral levels.  It is actually somewhat of a natural statin (which is why the FDA briefly had it labeled as a drug even though it shouldn't have been).

Please note that many of the cures on this website are in a state of incomplete progress. To simplify, I have created a 'best natural cures' page which I believe contain the most effective, non-drug, non-surgical cures available.
